Tennis at the Village:
Everything You Want it to Be.

We have a true tennis culture here at the Village…it’s a positive, fun, skills-building environment, and a great place to meet other tennis players. As a matter of fact, we’re one of the most active tennis clubs in the entire Valley. Because our management consists of former tennis pros, they will help you attain high skill-levels with our full-spectrum of lesson programs. The cornerstone of our philosophy is: embrace all skill levels so everyone can improve their tennis skills while having a great time. With 15 lighted courts nestled at the base of Camelback Mountain, what better place to master your game.

Pro Tip by Adria Raines

When you find yourself in a less than ideal position or pulled off of the court, try to hit the ball high, similar to a lob, deep into the court allowing yourself enough time to get back into the middle of the court. Make sure though that the ball you hit will land deep near the baseline. If hit too short, your opponent will jump on that ball quickly while you are still trying to get back into the middle.

Women's Singles Challenge Ladder

Women singles players of all levels are encouraged to sign up for our singles challenge ladder. To get on the ladder, all you have to do is pick someone to play and contact them for the challenge. If you win, you take their spot.

Men's Singles Challenge Ladder

The Village is the place to play tennis these days. We've got dozens of the Valley's best players all in one spot. We’ve got a great 4.5 - 5.0+ Men's Singles Challenge Ladder for them to showcase their talents. Anyone who'd like to get on the ladder just needs to challenge one of the three bottom players.

Junior Tennis

Camelback Village offers tennis programs for children ages 4-18. Our Junior Tennis Academy Program runs from September through May with on-going registration. Our goal is to instill in our students a love for the game of tennis and to improve skills.

We start with the Grand Prix Tennis Class for the 4 - 6 year olds where students learn basic hand-eye coordination and stroke production. Beginner classes are designed to prepare students for match play. Students will be introduced to the concepts of control, consistency, footwork, contact point, topspin and the rules.

Match Play Levels

Challengers, and Tournament Training Classes are designed to develop the basic strokes into an all-around game. Students in these programs are automatically placed on our Junior Challenge Ladder. All players are encouraged to participate in tournaments at the Village as well as local events.

Leagues

Our in-house tennis league program is booming! Six-week league sessions are offered year round at levels from beginners through advanced players. Our current program includes men’s and women’s singles, doubles and mixed doubles. We also offer leagues with flexible schedules for those who can’t quite commit to a specific day and time each week. All leagues end with a social party and awards for top participants.

Interclub Tennis

For those players who love the team experience, the Village is the perfect place to bond on an “interclub” team. These teams are comprised of Village members and play other clubs throughout the Valley. We currently host numerous women’s interclub teams throughout the week, as well as men’s teams on Saturday afternoons, and Sunday mornings and Play Tennis teams throughout the week in women’s doubles and mixed doubles.

Ball Machine Clinics

If you need a little practice but don't want the hassle of setting up a game, the Village's Ball Machine Clinics are for you! The 90-minute clinics run three times per week and are always led by one of our professional tennis staff. Each clinic goes over the basics including forehands, backhands, volleys, overheads and serves. No reservations are necessary. Just show up on court #7.

  • Wednesdays - 6:30–8 p.m.
  • Saturdays - 8:30-10 a.m.

Lessons

The Village has an outstanding staff of USPTA certified tennis professionals who teach private, semi-private as well as group lessons.

USA Level One & Two Classes (Adult Beginning Classes)

Often times adults are a little intimidated to start a new sport later in life. Our USA Level One class teaches you everything you need to know to get started in the game in six weeks. These group classes are very fun and friendly! You don’t even need a racquet to get started. If you’ve got a little experience or used to play years ago, our USA Level Two Class is for you. This class teaches doubles skills and strategy so you’ll be able to play games with your family or friends. These classes are open to members and non-members year round.

Tournaments

For the more serious players in the group, we offer competitive tournaments throughout the year including our annual Club Championships. Beginning in February each year, we host our Mixed Doubles, Singles and Doubles Club Championships, one per month. These tournaments draw players of all levels as each tournament is divided into NTRP categories. This way, players of all abilities can become Club Champions in their appropriate divisions. These weekend tournaments draw players from 3.0 to 5.0 +, and spectators always are delighted with the level of play. Each tournament ends with a player’s party during the finals, so those who don’t make it that far still have a great time! We also host a Fall Tennis Championships in November.

Tennis Socials

Throughout the year we offer fun and social tennis events based on various themes. Some of these include the French Open La Fete in May, Breakfast at Wimbledon Social on July 4th, U.S. Open Mixer in September and Wild Turkey Tourney around Thanksgiving. In these mixed doubles events players are divided into skill level groups so you’ll have fun, yet competitive tennis. Some events require partners and others are just “luck of the draw”. All socials start with tennis followed by a delicious feast and party festivities!

Match Service

If you’d like to play but don’t know who to contact, our match finding service is a perfect way to meet new players. Just contact our Program Services Director with the day and time you’d like to play, and you’ll be set up with other players of your ability. This is great for busy individuals or those who are new to the club. Another option is to use our On-Line Tennis Directory. Tennis members can register in our On-Line Tennis Directory to find other club members who like to play at the same times and at the same skill levels.
